In conjunction with adopting a healthier diet, selp programming can produce really remarkable results. Self programming means repeatedly reminding ourselves of something and emphasising that repetition through positive mood enhancement.
Positive mood enhancement does two things. Firstly it strengthen the connections in the currently active braincells thereby altering your personality ever so slightly in the direction you wish to go. And secondly, the pleasure of the meditative state actively fights against the major reason that people give up on diets, negative self image.
Negativee self image causes us to focus on the problem (I am still fat) rather than the solution (I have lost 2 pounds in weight). The depression of 'I am still fat' thinking causes us to lapse into old ways and drop the diet,leading to the yo-yoeffect where we rapidly regain any lost weight.
How to lose weight- The audio method
Anybody can tap into the extraordinary powers of self-hypnosis to lose weight.
Forget fad diets. Get a good diet reccomended by a qualified dietician and
combine it with the positive enhancement technique outlined below. . All
you have to do is read through these instructions, make an audio recording
onto Casette or CD (or buy a pre-recorded audio file) then try the five
basic steps for yourself.
1) Preparation
Comfortable clothes, comfortable room, abit of silence and a do not disturb sign on the door.
2) Relaxation
Relaxation – You will probably need a full half hour in a quiet warm
room to fully relax, although as you get practiced, it can take as little
as 10 minutes..
Our favourite method of deep relaxation is to tense and then relax each of the muscles in our bodies, one by one starting at the toes and working upwards . This technique takes about 10 minutes and really gets results.
3) Deepening Procedure
Once you have completed the relaxation phase you can begin to deepen the relaxed state, using a count down. Just start slowly counting down (in your head) from 100, imagining that you are drifting deeper with each count. Other images and thoughts will probably intrude themselves as you count. That is natural. Just gently brush them aside, continuing with your counting. You will think "this isn't working" at some point. Ignore that thought. It is not as if you ever switch into a 'hypnotised state' like you see on television. You are simply relaxing.
4) Self-Suggestion
Now, in a very warm, calm (very suggestible) state you can begin listening to your tape which you will have prepared earlier. It should last 15 minutes and should describe in a quiet, calm but authoritative voice the benefits of weight loss. Make these personal to your own situation for maximum effect. Praise yourself for changing your lifestyle for the better and remind yourself how much better you are feeling about everything in your life as a result.
Start with something like...
"I am on a journey. I am successfully losing weight. I am enjoying being lighter. I am becoming fitter and healthier every day..." and then just carry on talking for 15 minutes. Long pauses are fine, being positive is the most important point.
4. Termination
Once you have finished your session, you could just get up off the couch but it is better to formally identify the end of every session. By doing this you draw a clear line between the hypnotic state and being fully awake.
Say to yourself, "I will be fully awake and alert after three.(pause...) One , Two, Three"
